Dumped 2 boxes of oyster crackers in large mixing bowl. Decided to use peanut oil instead of Canola Oil - my system doesn't seem to like Canola Oil. Measured out the oil. Opend drawer to get the ranch dressing mix - none there! So -- dumped in some garlic powder, onion powder, Adobe seasoning, Everglades seasoning, pepper flakes, and some cayenne pepper. Let it set there for a couple of hours - stirring several times. Poured it over the crackers - Not Bad! Almost got it too salty, so have to be careful with the Adobe and Everglades seasonings. Think a good amount of Butter Buds added in would be good, too.

Anyone else have substitutes?

the crackers are kind of greasy but if you use something like a good EVOO or a good nut oil they would be fine health wise in moderation they make fantastic crouton like dressing for a nice salad another thing i did was i made my own ranch dry mix so as to control the amount of sodium and eliminate the msg feel free to contact me for the dry mix recipe or just flat out google it that's how i go mine. Oh yes and i put mine in a ziplock bag so i can "rotate" the crackers to douse them evenly :D
Many blessings and good eats to all

Searched the net for "dry ranch dressing mix recipe" and found several.

Using peanut oil which does not get rancid and is good healthwise. It does cost more.

Still like oyster crackers the best, but use Saltines in a pinch.

Cleaned the coffee mill and ground the pepper flakes in it. Be sure to clean well afterwards unless you want coffee with a kick

This sounds good but I have two questions. If you use the saltine crackers do you use
all four packages that is in the box and do you use them whole and not break them up?

Also, the red pepper flakes. I have a small bottle I bought in the Spice department.
Is that what you use? I want to make these so bad but I need more instructions LOL.
Thanks

We use all four sleeves of the saltine crackers when we make them and we use the red pepper flakes. Hubby doesn't like ranch dressing so I omit the ranch dressing and add extra red pepper flakes when I make them.
